Spanish vs. Tongues

The insightful blog Jusiper has a link to an article in The Washington Post, describing the pentecostal movement among Latino people, especially in developing countries. Don't they have enough to deal with without having to speak in tongues? Speaking in Spanish is cool. Speaking in tongues is... just kind of humiliating.

From the few Spanish-speaking televangelists I have seen, my sense is that they use more vowels when speaking in tongues than their English-speaking counterparts.

That's funny because when I used to speak in tongues I always thought it sounded a little like Spanish.

Were all your words made of two letter syllables and end with a vowel?

Well, then definitely all ended with a vowel. One of my favorite phrases sounded like this - "Shun dada ma keeli ai." For some reason I remember one woman always used that phrase. It's a good tongues phrase. Everyone should try it. It's fun!
